Facelift recovery, week by week

How top-ranked facelift surgeons describe recovery to their own patients, stage by stage, quoted from their websites with a link to each page. The typical practice puts the return to work at 2 weeks and the final result at 6 months.

Recovery by stage

The typical stated time for each stage, with the shortest and longest stated.

In the order they come: drains out after 2 days, sutures out after 7 days, driving or flying after 12 days, bruising faded after 2 weeks, back to work after 2 weeks, exercise again after 4 weeks, the final result after 6 months. Times vary by operation and by patient; the surgeon sets the plan at the consultation.

Method

Each practice's own website, checked 2026-09-30.

  • Each statement is quoted as printed on the practice's own site, from its facelift, neck lift, recovery or FAQ pages, with a link to the page.
  • Each statement carries a day count read from its text. A week counts as 7 days and a month as 30. Where a quote gives a range, the count is one end of it; the quote shows the full range.
  • The typical time for a stage is the median across practices: each practice's own median first, then the middle of those. Two surgeons on one practice site count once.
  • A statement with no time in it is listed without a figure and left out of the median.
  • Times differ by operation (facelift, deep plane facelift, neck lift, mini facelift) and by patient. The quotes name the operation where the practice does.

These are the practices' statements to their patients. The stages as the published studies measure them are on the facelift recovery timeline. The surgeons are from the Top 500; the method says how they were chosen.
