  • Techniques listed. SMAS facelift, which elevates and repositions the SMAS for lower face and neck laxity; deep plane facelift, which releases the retaining ligaments to move the lower and midface as one in a more vertical lift; mini facelift with smaller incisions, which can be done under local anesthesia; and neck lift (platysmaplasty) (facelift).
  • Procedure. Usually general anesthesia, in an accredited surgical facility; incisions along the temple hairline, around the ear and into the lower scalp, plus a small incision under the chin when a neck lift is added; a full facelift takes 3 to 6 hours.
  • Facelift recovery. Public-facing activity by the end of week 2; strenuous exercise avoided for 3 to 4 weeks; normal daily activities in weeks 4 to 6. Final results are given as 3 to 6 months in the timeline and 6 to 12 months in the FAQ.
  • Neck lift. General anesthesia or IV sedation; incisions behind the ears and sometimes under the chin; platysma tightening, liposuction or fat redistribution, skin redraping. Sutures out and return to non-strenuous work at one to two weeks; bruising gone in most patients by two to four weeks (neck lift).
